Gaia is not an easy filly to work with - in fact, she is one of the most volatile horses at Riverview Acres currently. She has a very hot and aggressive nature with both people and other horses, with very little seeming to settle her almost constant mood. She is territorial of her stall, cannot be turned out with other horses, and has to be approached with extreme caution by everyone. The outdoor paddock to the rear of her stall is high-walled, with a high gate adorned with a sign advising visitors to stay away - the front of her stall is barred, with a similar sign. The word wild is probably not the right word for her behavior - Gaia can (and does) settle for the few people she deems worthy. But even for those she is no sweet, easy flicka; she is strong willed and constantly challenging her handlers and riders.
Gaia has been described as both restless and energetic. In her stall and paddock she is regularly found impatiently pacing, destroying her feed bucket or pawing at her bedding. In the pasture she will regularly canter around and very rarely seems to just stop and relax. Furthermore, her handlers have commented that getting her to stand is more than a little challenging, and the filly seems happier when on the move.
There is a lot of courage in Gaia. She seems infallible, bombproof even. Her brave nature means she never backs down, and we have yet to find a situation which withdraws from her high levels of confidence. Match this with her highly spirited nature and a need to be the best and you have a horse who thrives in a competitive environment although she seems ill suited to disciplines other than racing. Early signs are that she will thrive on the track.

It is no surprise that Gaia is difficult before a race. She will escape her handlers if she gets half a chance, is guaranteed to pull them around and challenge them. It is not unheard of for her to suddenly pull her head down in an attempt to unseat her jockey either. But as long as she is kept out of range of other horses she is generally behaved with them. She fights gating, but actually has no issue with the contraption once she is within it.
When the gates open, she is like a bullet from them. There is no hesitation as she flies out onto the track and takes a position in the forward grouping. Gaia does not like to be tucked to the rail and prefers a wide position, with the rest of the speed on her inside. She is happy to run either as a front runner, or just behind the speed as a front runner and is more than comfortable with a fast pace.
Gaia holds her pace well throughout a race and is oblivious to pushing from other horses. Of course, she is also likely to ignore her jockey's signals too until the final stages when that whip comes into play. Here, she pushes even harder. She has a lot of fight and heart, and is completely unwilling to give in in the stretch.
