Roundtable Rival

Rio is one of those horses that just loves to move. Whether it's a full out action or just moving his hooves beneath him, he very rarely stops completely. It's not nerves, just a habit, and nothing seems to work when it comes to making him stop. It's not really an issue, however, and seems to fit with his friendly and playful personality.
The truth is, Rio comes across as a bit of a fool. He doesn't seem to take anything seriously and just wants to play constantly. His feed bucket is perfect for throwing around, the pasture is only there for him to run around and have fun. Being as he is, dominance isn't something he's worried about and he mixes well with other horses. He isn't lacking a brain completely, however - once you get him focused and interested in a task he tends to excel at it. The problem is getting him interested.
This is a colt that tends to get into everything if you let him. He is curious about the world around him and wants to lick it, sniff it, and figure it out. This can make handling him awkward, although a treat will quickly gain his attention and he is more behaved under-saddle.

Rio rarely seems interested in a race before it starts. He'd rather try to say hello to people, or be so focused on his handlers and the treats that he knows they carry that he just isn't paying attention. However he loads easily enough once he reaches the contraption and is calm within it.
His break is slower than typical, and it can take a minute for him to really get his head into a race, but with a preference for running somewhere between the front group and the closers it isn't too much of a worry. Once he's with the game, he stays focused although he isn't always the best when it comes to listening to his jockey.
In the closing stretch, Rio really comes into his own. The colt, with a signal from his jockey, will lurch into action with acceleration to rival that of a closer. He will fight in every stride, and actually has a strong spirit when it comes to making that final move. After all, what better game is there than the one which occurs in those final moments of a race?
